A number of crimes have been reported in Imperial County Sheriff’s Department in the past several weeks. Below are just a handful of incidents that have been reported to local authorities.
Deputies in Holtville said an unidentified Hispanic male was seen trying to lure children from their yard. The reporting caller said the man arrived to the area on a bike and was trying to persuade the children to go with him to look at some fish in the river. An adult was notified and the man was quickly chased off. He was last seen wearing black pants and a dark colored shirt. Additional information was not available, although it is believed the suspect is still at large. Authorities say if he strikes again and is captured he will be booked into the El Centro Jail and could be charged with attempted kidnapping.
Later that week, deputies responded to an assault call. A local man was found sitting outside a café after having been struck in the head with a beer bottle. The man did not want to give a statement and was uncooperative with first responders. He also declined medical attention. Authorities do not have a clear motive for the crime.
Deputies also arrested an 18 year-old man after his 16 year old girlfriend’s dad found the teen sleeping in her bed. He was found to have brass knuckles in his possession at the time of his arrest. The defendant is currently in custody at the county jail and is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
Several burglaries were also reported. The most recent involved valuables being stolen from inside a parked vehicle. The missing items reportedly included two full suitcases, a cell phone and laptop. Witnesses reported seeing two men going through the car prior to the crime being called in.
