A spokesperson for the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department has said deputies have been very busy during the past few weeks. Below are just a handful of the incidents they have dealt with.
The first involved a person who fled the scene of an automobile crash on Highway 101. The car is said to have rolled over. An unidentified man was seen fleeing the accident site. Witnesses describe him as being in his early to mid 40s. The suspect was last seen wearing jeans and a dark colored shirt. It is unclear whether that individual was under the influence, was in possession of a controlled substance, is out on parole or probation or if they are in the country illegally. Additional information was not immediately available.
Imperial County Sheriff’s Department personnel were also called to the scene of a second accident a short time later. This incident involved two vehicles. One victim died at the scene. A second was transported to a local hospital. The cause of the accident is still unknown.
Lastly, two teenage boys are reported to have burglarized a Holtville food market. The minors in question are believed to be ages 15 to 17. Imperial County Sheriff’s Department investigators said the pair made off with $250 in cash. They also stole BB guns, candy, cigars and other items. This investigation is ongoing.
