Police have often said that criminals can run, but they cannot hide.
A man who was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, is back in custody, police say. Imperial County Jail officials have confirmed that 31-year-old Jose Rodriguez posted El Centro bail bonds on the initial case, but the defendant never went to court.
Instead, he skipped out on the Imperial County bail bonds and fled to Mexico.
The defendant was captured in Meixcali; at the time of his arrest he was found with forged credit cards, forgery equipment and multiple fake ID cards. It’s unclear whether the defendant was captured by Mexican authorities or if the Imperial County bail bondsman hired a bounty hunter to track him down.
The defendant is currently being held at the Imperial County Jail on $25,000 bail bonds. Since he skipped out on his prior El Centro bail bondsman, it’s unlikely the defendant will be able to hire a bail bondsman to help get him out of jail.
