A representative from the El Centro Police Department has said that a would-be burglar was scared away by a house-alarm.
The incident took place on Monday at a home on the 2400 block of Elm Street. The resident was at home at the time the unidentified suspect tried to gain entry. The alarm went off, the burglar got scared, and made a run for it.
The homeowner called police around 3 a.m. to let them know what happened. The suspect is believed to be a shorter Hispanic man who has some but not much facial hair.
The suspect did, though, manage to run off with an armful of items. This included a debit and credit card, an expensive purse and an expensive wallet. The case is reportedly still being investigated by the El Centro Police.
This is not the only crime they have looked into in the past week. Three other men were arrested over the weekend after they were found trespassing on the grounds of a local high school.
A concerned citizen called in the anonymous tip that led to their capture. That person said they saw three people running across the school’s rooftops. All three suspects were captured. They have been identified as 22 year-old Byron Settles, 20 year-old Miguel Quines and 20 year-old Kameran Greer.
The men were not booked into the Imperial County Jail, but were instead cited and released. El Centro Police said this is referred to as a cite-out. The men were each given a ticket that has a date and time they are to appear in court. If they fail to appear, a bench warrant will be issued for their immediate arrest.
School officials have not said whether any items were damaged or taken during the incident.
El Centro Police have said they will continue to work to keep area streets safe from criminals.
