The El Centro Police Department reportedly said they recently worked with a team from the US Marshals to conduct a sex offender compliance sweep. All registered sex offenders are required to adhere to certain terms and conditions after they are released from custody. Of the 60 checks that were completed, two were arrested. One was found to be in violation of his parole and the other had an active warrant for a separate issue. Both men were transported to the El Centro Jail where they are being held pending arraignment. Bail information was not immediately available.
A spokesperson for the El Centro Police said they will continue to participate in these types of operations in the future. Making sure that offenders are properly registered and that their information can be validated is integral to public safety.
Calexico Police officials said they had their hands full this week after they received a call that one woman had Tased another at a local donut shop. Neither woman was able to indicate why the fight began. The assailant said she used the stun gun in self defense. It is unclear if either of the women were taken into custody. Police said the call came in just before 11 p.m. and that they responded to the scene a short time later. Investigators confirmed the victim had sustained injuries consistent with those associated with being Tased.
