A hit and run suspect who is believed to have struck another car due to driving under the influence has been arrested by members of the El Centro Police Department.
Officers said the hit and run accident took place on Monday evening when the driver of a jeep reportedly struck another vehicle. The driver that caused the accident fled the scene of the crime but was captured a short time later. Both cars sustained significant damage and needed to be towed. No critical injuries were reported.
El Centro Police Department officials say defendant Jonathan Knowlton has since been booked into the Imperial County Jail. Jail records do not show whether he had a prior history of arrest or whether he had any outstanding warrants. Bail information was not immediately available but persons who are suspected of driving while intoxicated that get into an accident as a result very commonly have very high bail amounts. These can often range from $50,000 to more than $500,000 depending on the exact nature of the incident.
The cost to arrange El Centro bail bonds will be 10% of whatever the defendant’s bail amount is. Collateral may or may not be required depending on that exact amount.
Additional information was not immediately available. Knowlton is expected to appear in court later this month.
