Numerous people have been booked into the El Centro Jail in the past few weeks. Law enforcement agencies throughout Imperial County continue to work to make local streets and neighborhoods safe for residents, visitors and guests.
El Centro Police have confirmed arresting a semi-truck driver who has a long history of hit-and-run accidents. Many of the incidents have been minor in nature. No pedestrians are reported to have been hurt at the time the accidents took place. Defendant David Contras is being charged with numerous counts of property damage. Investigators say they are currently trying to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time the most recent damage took place. Contras is being held on an unknown bail amount. He is scheduled to be arraigned later this week.
A convicted sex offender was also taken into custody. The man in question is reportedly described as being a 23 year-old Mexican male who was trying to enter the US unlawfully. Further investigation uncovered he has a prior rape conviction and had served 18 months in prison. He is currently being detained at the El Centro Jail while authorities try to arrange his deportation.
Lastly, Holtville police said they recently responded to a call relating to a suspicious person. Witnesses said he was last seen trying to coerce a high school student into his car. That suspect remains at large. His vehicle was descried as being a white Ford Crown Victoria. Anyone who believes they have information regarding the suspect or his whereabouts are asked to contact police.
