Members of the El Centro Police Department said they have responded to a number of call is the past week. The first of which involved an ice cream salesman being threatened by a competitor.
The incident took place late last week when the victim was engaging in business near Hope Street and Hamilton Avenue. A man in his late 50s walked up to the vendor and threatened him physically. The reporting party said the man said he was not permitted to sell on this street because it was his turf. The caller was threatened with physical violence. It was at that time that he pulled out his phone to call 911. The suspect fled the scene before police were able to arrive. Officers told the caller to let them know if he had any further problems or incidents with this individual. If the suspect is captured he will be taken to the El Centro Jail to be booked into the system. He could face charges related to terrorist threats. If he is charged with that crime his bail could be set as high as $100,000.
In other news, Calexico Police reportedly said they were alerted about a dead body that was seen in a local canal. The deceased is believed to be a resident of Mexico. It is unclear whether he died of natural causes or whether he is a victim of foul play. An autopsy is pending.
