A spokesperson at the Imperial County Jail has confirmed that a handful of suspects have been booked into their facility on a myriad of drug charges including transportation, possession with the intent to sell and others.
In one of the incidents, Calexico Police searched a minivan containing a female US citizen and her four children. Once they made their way across the border, an imaging system at the port led officers to believe there was something a bit off in the vehicle’s dashboard.
When they searched the minivan they found more than 29 pounds of methamphetamine. Officers suspect it had an estimated street value of nearly $190,000.
Several days later CPD officials confiscated nearly 35 pounds of the drug from another vehicle that was heading across the border.
Police said they also arrested a man who was found to be smuggling about 50 pounds of cocaine into the US. A few hour s later, they confiscated more than a dozen pounds of meth from another vehicle.
All of the suspects are being held at the Imperial County Jail where they are being held on undisclosed bail bonds.
