Officers within the Brawley Police Department were sent to the Pioneers Memorial Hospital earlier this month to investigate a possible bomb threat.
BPD officers were joined by the Imperial County Arson and Bomb unit.
According to news reports, police dispatchers had received a call about a suspicious package that was found in the parking lot directly across from the hospital. Nearby offices were immediately evacuated as a precaution; the bomb squad was dispatched to the scene to help with the investigation.
A spokesperson for the police department indicated the package was located inside a parked vehicle. X-rays were performed on the vehicle and the package to determine whether the package was, in fact, rigged with explosives.
Police ultimately determined the threat was not substantial. Officers have not indicated what was inside the package, or who owned the vehicle in which the package had been stored.
Brawley Police Department officials said they appreciated receiving the call about the suspicious package. If you see something, say something, the spokesperson said.
