Members of the Brawley Police Department said they have captured and detained an alleged gunman. Officers said they responded to the scene of a shooting last weekend. The incident took place at the intersection of North Eastern Avenue and B Street. It was at that time that victim Albert Ramos was discovered. Brawley PD officers said he sustained multiple fatal gunshot wounds. Paramedics were called but lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful. Ramos was pronounced dead a short time later.
The gunman was identified through the help of witness tips. That man, Francisco Solorio, was taken into custody a short time later without incident. He has since been transported to the Imperial County Jail where he is being held on an undisclosed bail amount. Bail amounts for murder often begin at $1 million but can often go higher. If the defendant or a member of his family wishes to hire an expert bondsman their cost would be 10%. The person who cosigns the paperwork will also be required to post collateral in order to secure the bond.
An investigator within the Brawley Police Department has confirmed they are in possession of the suspected murder weapon. Witnesses to the crime reportedly said the two men lived in close proximity to one another and had been seen arguing on more than one occasion. Residents say they are shocked and saddened the dispute escalated to this type of violence. The department said they will continue to investigate the homicide and are asking anyone with information to please call their investigative division and place an anonymous tip.
